Fine app, except for a bug for non US cities

Hi, first of all, congratulations for this nice, useful app! I’m using version 2.7.4 on a French Mavericks. I was pleased to find that the latest update made it possible to add Forecasts for non US cities. However, there’s a glitch here on my Mac that I would like to mention. It happens when I add a non US city, like the French city of Bastia for example, and when I check the « Show Highs and Lows in Forecast » in Preferences > Menubar Preferences > Menu Display. After doing this, if I click on the city name to show the forecast, the Highs are exacty identical to the Lows, which doesn’t make sense in the middle of winter, I think. This doesn’t happen for US cities. I hope you can look into this and find a way to fix it.

Lots of good information, but...........

non-USA sources need to be used to compile better information and to provide radar images and forecasts. A large amount of Canadian cities are not available. It would appear that for those that are available, forecasts are not. A friendly reminder to our American neighbours, no one but you, Burma, and Liberia use Imperial mesurements! Please make an option to convert all readings to metric!

Waste of Time

For all the international and Canadian cities I tried it would only display “?” Clearly it can’t even locate the current conditions in many cities. The user interface also clutters up your desktop – basically just a poorly implemented app that is seems designed for limited USA use.

Its all there …..

Its all there in one display including sunrise and sunset times plus the phases of the moon ….. well worth it. Also, F and C are both displayed simultaneously

crashing on Yosemite?

I’ve enjoyed this app for many years, but seems to have developed a bug under Yosemite… semi - regular crashes due to not handling an exception… will wait to see how the developer responds..

Great little app if you live in the USA

This app will not display forecasts, extended forecasts or radar images if you are looking at Canadian cities. At one point in time, a few years back and before the weather sites started to charge for their information, this was a great little app and worked well in Canada. Then all of a sudden out of the blue, one couldnt even add Canadian cities. Now one can add them again but it only provides barebone information. I hope they fix this.

Celcius anyone?

Except if i am mistaken, this app does not offer to display data in Celcius/Metric units on its main interface, which renders it inutile for like 90% of the world. It is also uselessly complex (see how to add locations), with a “heavy” interface that will appeal to some, though it runs counter to the minimalist style apple is going with. The only good thing is that it’s only ¥100, so it’s cheap to buy, and easy to trash! (i will add that in case units can easily be set to Celcius/Km, i never figured it out, and my review should be the one to be trashed!)

not good

This is one of the worst app Ive ever tried. Its useless , because of the units (not metrics), so there are the miles and not Km, degrees not in Celsius but in fahrenheit…. All us Europeans ( non-English ) all this units are nothing!

What the heck?

The weather settings for this show at least a ten degree differnce than any other app. How can two different weather stations in the same city have such different readings? There’s no way to set another station instead for my location. Lame.

What happened to the international cities

You fixed the problem with temperature reporting; however, now the international cities data DOES NOT LOAD and crashes the app. FIX IT!

Now ? instead of a weather forecast.

First, no international cities, now ? instead of temperatures. These folks are very quick in acknowledging problems via email, but very slow in actually fixing the problems. It’s one of the only menu bar apps for weather. Don’t use the “dock,” hated that waste of screen for years and always have it completely hidden. As always, it’s sad when an upgrade is actually a downgrade. it you pay for an app, and the same version you’ve paid for breaks, software writers have an obligation to fix it in a reasonable amount of time. When the actual FUNCTIONALITY of an app is broken, it really should be fixed faster than this is taking.

simple, good, inexpensive

WeatherMan is perfect for quick access to weather conditions right in the menu bar. Lots of customization options.

A great app

Ive sunk a lot of money into finding a replacement for WeatherDock and none can compare to Weatherman. The temperature is right on the money. Its easy to add cities. It has extended forecasts and reliable alerts. I recommend it.

Needs Work... Poor User Interface... Not a Good Replacement for those using WeatherDock!

I purchased this based on good reviews and those that compared it to “WeatherDock”. My basic complaints with this app are its user interface, user displays and that it is not as User friendly as it should be. The user does not have the ability to choose font sizes or type. Nor do they have the ability to control the icon size or placement within the dropdown menu. While this may not normally be an issue it is with this app because the default types, sizes and colors of fonts used along with the default size, placement and usage of icons is neither aesthetically pleasing or easy to read. In easy to read I mean, one should be able to quickly glance at the dropdown and understand all the “high-value” information right away. Since this app uses the same font, size, color and weight for all information displayed in the dropdown the user is forced to read it as though it were a book. No large icons are used in the dropdown to convey information to the user quickly. Another area that needs work is the user friendliness around adding locations or stations. The user is forced to enter both a “Title” and “Lookup Text” when adding a new location. While it is a nice feature to be able to edit location titles it should auto-populate with the standard default text for that location. This means double work for entering locations and is very tedious and time consuming. Forget using copy and paste because this app does not recognize menu or keyboard commands for select all, copy and paste for all fields. You have to know were you can use what. You cannot jump between cities within the menu dropdown either! I am still searching for a good replacement for “WeatherDock”

a little overcomplicated

User interface to get things started with various settings is complicated. No option of celcius only so its clear this app is not friendly with most of the world thats on metric. I have no need to see things in farenheight and no way to turn it off. Hopefully an update will address this.

It works but needs improvement

Newest Update: Now the developer has ceased answering any emails. The program is somewhat buggy and I sent a polite email inquiring about a work-around when encountering one of the bugs. I have received no answer as of yet, and it looks like this application may be on its way to being abandoned. I would not recommend this application to any prospective buyer. Update: Definitely not a good sign that the developer no longer maintains the Weatherman App Support forums. Bewaware that this app has not been updated in 4-5 months. It may have been abandoned by its developer and you should probably look elsewhere for an up to date weather application that is properly supported. This does work at its core mission of delivering weather to you in the menubar etc. However, its preference screen is an unusually disorganized panel and the alert function really needs a lot of work. The alerts really do not work well at all. The developer has been "alerted" to this and says that he will eventually have an update that will incorperate growl and deliver a better user expereince. He has yet to say when this will actually happen though. Buyer beware.

Full featured - not for those who are looking for simple

This program has been around for many years - it was one of the first programs I installed when I migrated from Mac OS 9 to OS X in the early 2000s. I agree with many reviewers that the interface is a bit complicated, but that is also what makes this such a good program. It is highly configurable and allows you to check multiple locations easily. Many features can be turned on and off, so you can get as much or as little info as you would like. Id suggest that users take some time to study the program. With a bit of tweaking I believe that this program will fit most users needs.

support

this is a good/great app. One issue is that when you request support and or ask for a clarification support never replies. 3 requests no answers

Broken App

Re-instaled this App after HD upgrade. Now only getting information for Muskegon, MI. Lookup fails on every attempt. For only $0.99 I cant complain but I will be deleting App. Suggest you look elsewhere for a weather App as I will be doing the same.

OS X 10.7.4 Users - A solution to get Weatherman working

I, too, have been using Weatherman for a number of years, and recently noticed that it was no longer updating the weather. I figured out a fix this morning that MAY work for some of you. Fortunately, I have a cloned, bootable version of my Mac when it was running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.8). Its on an external drive. This is what I did. I went into "System Preferences" and selected "Startup Disk." I then selected my bootable Snow Leopard clone as the new startup disk and booted up into that. Once on the Snow Leopard desktop, I opened up Weathermans "Preferences." I clicked on "Cities," selected one of the cities that I had loaded into Weatherman at that time. I then copied down on a piece of paper the "City Setup Codes (i.e., "Conditions Code," Forecast Code," "FIPS Code," and the "NEXRAD") for that city. I then went back into System Preferences, clicked on Startup Disk, and selected my Macs main hard drive running OS X (Lion) 10.7.4. I went into Weatherman, and then went into its "Preferences." I selected "Cities" and clicked on the "plus sign" in the lower-left corner to add a new city. I selected "Setup U.S. Location" window opened, I just filled in the city setup codes that Id copied down. And VOILA! It works again. Yes, I know, its a royal pain, but if you happen to have a backup drive that has an earlier verion of your Macs OS when Weatherman was working, as I do, this solution may work for you. Good luck.
